In 2016 the five students from Herm School came to visit the Guernsey Sailing Trust for a sailing lesson on the Model Yacht Pond.  The students were studying Swallows and Amazons and so were very excited to be able to sail their own boat.  We had tried to visit the school last year to present the students with their logbooks and certificates, but unfortunately the tides and weather had other ideas and we did not manage to make it over.

This year, we were determined to get over to see them.  As a special treat for the school, we decided to donate one of our older pond oppies so they could continue learning to sail on the island.  On the 4th of April (which also happened to be Rich’s birthday) we fixed the oppie to the back of SeaJay and headed over.  Under supervision of parents and a guard boat the students will now be able to continue sailing off Shell Beach!  The pupils were also very proud to received their logbooks and certificates, as you can tell from the photo!

It was lovely to be able to visit the little school and see how it runs.  The five pupils, of varying ages, are all confident and friendly and we hope to see them sailing with us again soon.
