Windsurf Instructor Course April 10^th – 14^th 2012

I am planning another Windsurf Instructor course over Easter 2012.

The course will be 5 days long from 9am till approximately 4.30pm each day with the 5^th day being a moderation with another Trainer from the UK.

The cost of the course will be £150 which will include the Windsurf Instructor manual.

Info

-Minimum age is 16, there’s no maximum age!

-Minimum candidates 4, maximum is 8

-You will have the opportunity to help with Team 15 and run other courses through the Sailing Trust, or even work for any RYA centre around the World!

Certificates needed to become an Instructor.

- Intermediate non-planing certificate with beach starting and non-planing gybe clinics;

- RYA Powerboat level 2 certificate;

- Valid first aid qualification.

2012 Course Dates & Bookings

We are now taking bookings for 2012 courses, new for this year is an updated booking process, which includes being able to pay using Paypal either using your own Paypal account or by using Debit and Credit cards.

2012 Bathtub Race

New Sails from The Set Sail Trust

We have kindly been donated 7 brand new Windsurfing rigs by the Set Sail Trust… These sails are a fantastic addition to the Sailing Trusts kit and will help us get windsurfing firmly back on the list of most fun things to do with your summer

The sails are all from the UK sail manufacturer Tushingham and range from 3.5 square meters to 6.25 square meters.

We thoroughly tried and tested them last week and the sails have had rave reviews from all the youngsters that tried them.

So its a big thank you to The Set Sail Trust from the Sailing Trust and all its young Windsurfers!

2010 was another great year for the Trust. Most junior and secondary schools on the island sent groups down to sail either on the Model Yacht Pond or on the water. As usual our Summer RYA Courses were very popular, and fully subscribed. All those that attended had a great time and were well looked after by our dedicated team of young instructors. This year we are introducing a Wednesday after school sailing club from 1600 – 1800 at a cost of £5 per session, and will be held from 4 May until July and will recommence in September. In total during the year we had over 1900 students pass through the Trust, either Sailing, Windsurfing or Power boating. We had a huge increase in interest in Adult sailing and Powerboat courses, and in 2011 we plan to run more courses to fill the void.

Last year saw the retirement of our Topper Sport 14’s, which we replaced by generous donations from various sponsors, with RS Visions and Fevas. They have proved to be excellent dinghies, and have been very popular with all of our students and have been a worthwhile addition to the Trusts fleet.

In June of last year Rich and his wife Elisabeth had another baby, a girl called “Jody”, this made for an even busier year for him. I think he is going slightly balder and greyer, but don’t tell him!

It was another successful year for the Trust’s Windsurfing programme in which we started our new Team 15 Windsurfing Club. Team 15 is a nationwide network of windsurfing clubs where young people aged 15 and under can get together every week to learn new windsurfing skills and have a laugh with their mates on the water. In 2010 the club ran from May till September which made the most of the fine weather. It proved to be very popular especially through the summer holidays. For 2011 we are looking for sponsorship for a new Bombard safety boat, 12 new Pico Sails and for a new fleet of windsurf boards and sails.

This year we have decided to introduce a 10% discount on all courses for Friends of The Guernsey Sailing Trust, this is a new initiative to reward and to encourage the Friends. Without their valuable support it would leave us with alot more funding to find through Sponsorship.

The New Fleet

As of this week we now have the last of our new fleet of boats for 2010. The RS Visions have arrived which now completes our fleet of double handed dinghies. With the 3 Fevas, 3 Visions and our Topper Xenon which have replaced the Sport 14′s, we can continue to deliver our RYA Courses and School sailing in these versatile, robust boats for many years to come. Thanks go to all our Sponsors of the new boats.
