CEVNI Online Test

Online Test – £30

VHF course

What is the CEVNI test?
The CEVNI test covers the European Code for Inland Waterways Navigation—the standardized rules that govern boating on Europe’s rivers, canals, and lakes. It includes navigation rules, buoyage and signage, sound and light signals, right-of-way, and safe conduct on inland waterways.

Why do people need to take it?
Passing the CEVNI test is required to obtain or validate an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for inland waters. Many European countries and charter companies require an ICC with CEVNI endorsement before you can legally skipper a boat.

Upon completion of a successful CEVNI exam, you can attach your CEVNI Pass certificate to your ICC application – it will then be processed and validated for INLAND waters in addition to COASTAL waters. If you have already applied for your ICC, you can re-apply for inland categorisation upon completion of the CEVNI exam (additional RYA certification fees may apply for non-members).

The Test

The CEVNI test is a short multiple choice online paper that you can take remotely from your own home or indeed from anywhere in the world.

Students can study the signs, lights, buoyage and regulations using the book RYA European Waterways Regulations (G17) or the Handy Guide to CEVNI (G106).  These books can be purchased through the Guernsey Sailing Trust.

Once you have booked and we have received payment, we will give you access to the RYA Interactive portal where you will be able to complete the test.
