Students will sail the Oppies on the Model Yacht Pond each week to improve their sailing skills. Sailors may be split into smaller groups based on age and/or ability, also taking into account the weather, to ensure everyone is learning and having (more…) The Oppies on the Pond courses are suitable for beginners and improvers. Taught on the Model Yacht Pond by instructors in waders, these courses are fun and allow progression for sailors of all abilities. When there is a mixed ability in the group, it will be split into smaller groups to allow each sailor to progress at the right level for their sailing and age. Oppie sailing on the sea is the next progression from sailing on the pond, where skills can be fine-tuned and further progression can be made through the stages of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. For children aged 6 – 10 years old. The boats used are upgraded versions of those used on the pond and therefore it is necessary that sailors have completed RYA stage 2 or equivalent. The Pond Sailability is a dedicated program to enable primary aged children with disabilities or long-term health conditions (physical, sensory, or learning disabilities) to experience the joy of sailing.
