We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to this year’s Discover Sailing Open Day, hosted jointly by the Guernsey Sailing Trust and the Guernsey Yacht Club on Saturday 25th April 2026, from 11am to 3pm at Castle Emplacement.
This is one of those easygoing community days where anyone can come along, try something new, and enjoy the buzz around the harbour. Whether you’re thinking about getting into sailing or just fancy a relaxed day by the water, it’s the perfect opportunity.
Free Sailing Taster Sessions
Throughout the day, both the Trust and the Yacht Club teams will be running free taster sessions on the pond and out at sea. No experience is needed — just turn up, hop in a boat, and give it a go.
What You’ll Be Sailing
We’ll have a variety of boats rigged and ready so that everyone — from young children to curious adults — can get involved.
On the Model Yacht Pond
Oppies
Small, sturdy and specifically designed for young beginners. Oppies are perfect for helping children take their first confident steps into sailing.
Out at Sea
RS Zests
A great option for first‑timers, the Zest can be sailed solo or with a buddy. They’re stable, adaptable and ideal for relaxed taster sessions on the water.
RS Quests
Perfect for small groups, families or anyone wanting an instructor on board. The Quest is comfortable, spacious and gives a great introduction to sailing.
Hawk 20 keelboats
If you’d prefer something stable and roomy, the Hawk 20 is just the boat. These keelboats comfortably carry several people plus an instructor, making them ideal for a sociable, steady sail around the harbour.
RIB powerboat rides
For those who prefer speed to sails, we’ll also be running short powerboat trips in our RIBs — always a favourite with visitors young and old. The Trust operates several RIBs designed for safe and fun powerboating.
Pop Into the Guernsey Yacht Club
The Guernsey Yacht Club will be open all day, and everyone is warmly encouraged to come inside, grab a drink and enjoy something tasty from the barbecue. It’s a great chance to soak up the atmosphere, chat with members, and see what the Club has to offer.
Cake Sale in Support of the Guernsey Sailing Trust
We’ll also be running a cake sale, with all donations going to support the Guernsey Sailing Trust. If you enjoy a slice of something sweet after your sail, this is the place to be — and every contribution is much appreciated.
Everyone’s Welcome
The Open Day is completely free and open to all ages. You can stay for a quick try‑out or spend the whole afternoon with us — whatever suits you.
